                       Big R (a.k.a Randy French)

Big R's musical path began in the mid 1980's. A graduate of Grand Blanc High School, Big R's musical background was originally rooted in the sounds of such bands as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and many other classic rock bands. In the beginning, Big R worked away on his guitar learning the basic chords and gaining some experience. This left him wanting to be creative like the other bands that he admired so much. Soon after graduation Big R was introduced to Leftee by a mutual friend. (The Dooch - God rest his one of a kind soul) The two talked of their musical ideas and soon after formed a band called "The Rasta's" with the focus of creating original music. In the early days of this collaboration there was only Big R and Leftee, and all of the music they created was done by themselves, with Big R playing all of the guitar parts and Leftee playing the drums. These early creations were done on a Fostex Four Track cassette recorder. The original sound of The Rasta's was a mix of Big R's classic rock influenced edge and Leftee's Police and Bob Marley Drum sound. This in itself created a unique sound that was quite unconventional and inspiring. The early sound was a very raw sound indicative of a Punk Rock/ Reggae. When the two recorded for the most part, they channeled their energies in a way not to pollute the gift of creation from the Creator. Most of these vocal tracks were just laid down in one take and the emphasis was to gain divine creation in the gift of music, and let the songs further develop themselves as they were played live. (These early recordings will soon be available on a compilation called The Rasta's- Sunshine Redeye which will be available here exclusively).

As the 80's came to a close, The Rasta's found themselves in need of a Bass player to make the band complete. This task proved to be a very challenging one. Every bass player the band approached created an atmosphere of pain and suffering as they butchered their songs horribly. Eventually the band grew tired of this experience and brought on Mr X to play drums for the band and Leftee moved to Bass Guitar. During these years, Big R polished up his guitar skills with lessons from Jim Lorang, a local Michigan guitar legend. Over the next 5 years The Rasta's flourished with their new line-up change. Big R and Leftee were now able to create and express their music in much more connected way. The Rasta's played gigs, and once Martin joined the band and many of these shows have been chronicled in (The Rasta's - Sunshine Redeye the DVD) which will be available here in the near future. The most notable of these gigs was the guest appearance at Connor's Bar and Grill on M-15 in Otisville, Michigan. The Band took the stage in full dreadlock wigs, trench coats and completely rocked the house. Unfortunately the venue was a Country venue. Like a scene out of the Blues Brothers Movie, the place erupted with commotion as a patron screamed that the band was trying to steal his mind with the Reggae / Rock Rhythms. Eventually this disgruntled individual threw a chair across the bar and was ejected. On the way out of the bar the drunk said, "Get some real jobs", to which a pissed off Big R said "We don't have to, were from Grand Blanc." (Upscale part of the area) The audience chuckled with laughter! The band continued their set and brought the house down literally with an encore Police song. Needless to say that was the last time they wore their dreadlock wigs in a Country bar.

After a lengthy break of over 10 years, Big R and Leftee rejoined and called the new project ThreePeace. In 2005 the band recorded an album called "Empire of the Sun" in Empire, Michigan on their portable recording studio. Mr X was brought back into the band for the project as session drummer, and this actually brought The Rasta's back together so to speak.  It was at this time that Raul entered the band as rhythm guitarist and songwriter. Over the spring and summer of 2005 ThreePeace played numerous gigs, most notably the Marina gig in Caseville, Michigan, home of the famous Cheeseburger Festival. On the album, Big R was very busy playing Guitar, Bass and collaborating on the Lyrics for a number of songs, as well as songwriter.  Big R has never been happier musically then of late. With the power he has channeled from his Creator, Big R has recovered from a crippling back injury to conquer once again.  His guitar playing and songwriting  on "Empire of the Sun" was his most inspired work to date. When Big R was asked to describe his feelings on what ThreePeace means to him, he replied in the immortal words of Bob Marley saying, " One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain."  So hit me with Music, Rock on Big R.
